MillBrook Homes
"As administrator of MillBrook Homes, residential Alzheimer's and dementia care assisted livings, in Denver, Colorado, I am always looking for new things and activities to enhance the "quality of life" of our residents. I was very pleased to find the Memory Lane video, FAMILY. It was so much more than I had expected! I saw residents laughing and singing and dancing while watching the video! The residents related to all the topics on FAMILY and spoke about their own weddings and children ... and other special memories. The familiar music kept the residents' interest and brought smiles to their faces. The video is a wonderful way for family members or extended family in our case, to enjoy the time they spend together as it helps rekindle pleasant thoughts and memories and creates a special time for sharing. Thank you Memory Lane for FAMILY, and I look forward to what Memory Lane will offer in the future."

"The Family video is a breakthrough reminiscence video. The video will stimulate the dementia resident, spark memories and uplift their spirits. The music and songs are entertaining and endearing. We recommend this video not only for the long-term care facility but for family members who are caring for loved ones in their home. The video will hold your loved ones attention and provide the caregiver opportunities to take care of household responsibilities. Congratulations to Memory Lane for a well thought out product and we look forward in anticipation to the next release."

"The Family Connect and Reflect Kit demonstrates person-centered care and is an enriching application of social history information particularly with persons with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia by family, friends as well as professional caregivers in small group or large group activity. These very tools are what define meaning and purposeful activity so desperately needed for quality dementia care. They also hone cultural competence for professional care providers serving today's culturally diverse populations. The creators have been thorough to ensure proper application and offer broad application to the complex system of caregiving including home care."

"Memory Lane has captured the essence of life’s sweetest moments in its newly released video project, Family. Having previewed this inspiring video with older adults in a continuing care setting, residents unanimously agree that Family captures memories of the best times of our lives, times with family and friends. They sang along, smiled, and laughed, sharing similar stories of times in their own lives.
Those who care for older adults, including those with memory loss, will find Family is a beautiful, reflective reminder to us all: with each age and each generation we have a significant role we play in the lives of others. In Family, you will see yourself in each character: the child, the sibling, the spouse, the parent, the grandparent, and yes, even the caregiver."

"We have had some remarkable effects with our Memory Lane video. The residents of our dementia unit (which is named "Memory Lane", coincidently) have reacted to this video as they have not done for many of the activities we provide for them. The video seems to hold their attention and seems to make them more comfortable. Some of our seniors on Memory Lane have a very difficult time sitting for even short periods. When the video has been viewed, no matter how many times they have seen it, they tend to be more at ease and relaxed. The gentle tones of the video have also provided one other very positive effect for our residents- our staff, seeing how the residents react to the quiet speech and sounds on Memory Lane (the video) have begun to keep their voices down when addressing the residents or carrying out their normal duties. The sound levels on the unit have been reduced greatly and our seniors have responded very positively to the serene setting. You can stand back and watch the seniors as they watch the video and almost see them going back to where they remember peace and happiness. I have been amazed with the effects of this video and family members who visit have given positive comments and their thanks for it. Thank you for this valuable resource."

Family Caregivers:
"I bought Family for my grandmother who suffers from dementia and is living in a nursing home. We were amazed at how it captured her attention with her laughing and even talking back in certain sections. TV doesn't hold her attention any more but she was mesmerized by the pacing and variety on Family. The other residents in her home also enjoy watching the tape. Thank you from both of us!"

"What I especially like about the Memory Lane video, Family, is that it generates as well as captures the warmth of universal family experiences and memories. As it spans the decades of family life, it also provides a chance to build new bridges among those viewing it in the here and now. It's almost like viewing a family tree from two perspectives: over the generations and across the room. Most of the images and icons in Family blend what is special in the memories of older people with what they have shared with others--- for example, a crackling baseball radio broadcast, teen couples dancing the jitterbug in the 1950s and a birthday cake----the kinds of shared experiences that are general, delightful and common enough to be understood and enjoyed by all who view them.
The interviewed seniors and narration are equally warm, engaging and comfortably famliar----as is the music, which accurately, brightly and richly captures the era, the moment and the meaning of the visual content.
In a sense, Family speaks for, as well as to, all memory-imparied grandparents, because it is as much an opportunity for them to show as well as to see their lives and times. And for the viewer who is not memory-impaired, it is a reminder of how good family life at its best is and can be."
